OSCE Secretary General and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister commit to enhanced co-operation
Following his constructive visit to Uzbekistan in November 2017, the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger signed a Joint Commitment with Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gayrat Fazilov in Vienna on 7 December 2017 to jointly implement a road map on enhanced co-operation between the OSCE and the country.
The road map, formally called the ‘Action Plan on further development of co-operation of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the OSCE in 2018-2019’, was proposed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the OSCE Secretary General’s visit to the country from 9 to 11 November 2017.
The Joint Commitment covers a wide-ranging list of activities in all three dimensions of the OSCE’s work – the politico-military, economic and environmental and human dimensions, stating that these are designed to “contribute to the National Action Strategy of the Government of Uzbekistan (2017-2021) and promote the OSCE agenda in Uzbekistan.”
It adds that the Government of Uzbekistan and the OSCE are committed "to work together to build a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable society.”
