The New-Med network will hold in Ankara the concluding event for 2015. The conference is co-organized by ORSAM, a prominent Turkish think tank, and IAI of Rome. It will bring together over a 100 participants from academia, policy centers, international organizations, and the diplomatic community based in Turkey.
The topic of discussion will be patterns of radicalization and strategies to counter this phenomenon. This is a priority area for the OSCE, which recently adopted a Ministerial Declaration on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization that lead to Terrorism at the Belgrade Ministerial Council.
The Track II format serves as a platform for a frank and informal discussion about the challenges of radicalization within both Arab and European societies. The focus have been on the mix of old and new drivers and the intersection of radicalization dynamics with long-lasting regional conflicts. The issue of foreign terrorist fighters will also beo discussed with a view to identifying the true elements of novelty in what is in other respects an old phenomenon.
