OSCE supports the Second International Youth Forum of Syrdarya River Basin
The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe supported the Second International Youth Forum of the Syrdarya River Basin on 30 September 2024. The event, organized in co-operation with the NGO "Youth Group on Protection of the Environment/Khujand Aarhus Centre" and various international organizations such as International Secretariat for Water, Helvetas, IWPR, ACTED, USAID, UNDP, and with the support of the Committee for Environmental Protection, aimed to involve young people in water management within the context of climate change. The focus was on promoting a regional approach to environmental issues in the Syrdarya River Basin.
The one-day programme attracted over 250 participants from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The agenda included informative sessions on the activities of the Green Patrols and capacity-building master classes. Additionally, participants engaged in team-building activities and practical environmental exercises, such as constructing a rainwater filtration system, purifying polluted water using household items, composting, and building a drip irrigation system. These hands-on experiences facilitated a deeper understanding of sustainable environmental management.
This initiative aligns with the commitment of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe to support Tajikistan in addressing environmental challenges, enhancing environmental education, and advancing regional environmental progress, with a specific focus on empowering youth in these areas.
