OSCE organizes summer rehabilitation camps for mine victims
From 14 to 27 August 2023, Tajikistan National Mine Action Center with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (the Office) is organizing two-week summer rehabilitation camps for victims of landmine and explosive remnants of war in Guliston, Sughd region.
The event is bringing together 40 participants, including nine women. The participants are taking part in psychological counseling sessions, trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, physiotherapy, art therapy, advocacy support, and adaptive sport/leisure activities.
Psychosocial rehabilitation of mine survivors is one of the key component of victim assistance initiatives and aims to reduce the physical and psychological implications of post-traumatic stress disorder. The event also aims to help people injured by mines and explosive remnants of war to overcome social marginalization and the impairment of the realization of their rights.
The initiative is part of the Office’s ongoing support to Tajikistan in providing victim assistance as a core component of mine action, in line with its obligations under the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Convention and the provisions of the National Mine Action Strategy 2021-2030.
