OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe holds training course on moral compensation for victims of torture and their relatives
A two-day training course for lawyers on helping victims of torture and their relatives to pursue moral compensation concluded on 31 March 2018 at the new Office of the Union of Lawyers of Tajikistan.
The training was jointly organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, the NGO Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan, the Union of Lawyers of Tajikistan and the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights Regional Office in Central Asia.
The national and international trainers shared with the participants their practical experience in working on behalf of torture victims. Cases from the European Court of Human Rights, from the UN Committee against Torture as well as from Tajikistan were discussed. The course also touched upon a number of non-torture-related but nevertheless very sensitive cases, such as the moral suffering of young women accused of having lost their virginity prior to marriage.
In the training course participating lawyers learned about useful tools that will help them improve their ability to achieve compensation for victims of torture.
