OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe organizes workshop for women on political participation

A three-day workshop for women on political participation, which was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, concluded in Tajikistan’s capital on 3 December 2017.
Some 40 female politicians, young activists, journalists and civil society representatives from Dushanbe and the Sughd and Khatlon regions of Tajikistan participated in the workshop.
The participants discussed the different aspects of a successful campaign for political office, affirmative measures such as gender quotas, how to address constituents and the interests of different groups, and working with the media.
“We are happy to see a strong interest in this topic among all of our partners: from the decision-making level to the grassroots level,” said Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede, Gender and Anti-Trafficking Officer at the OSCE Programme Office, who delivered the workshop. “Tajikistan has a national policy for gender equality, and the OSCE contributes to the further advancement of women by building their knowledge and developing their skills.”
The workshop was interactive, and included role play exercises and case studies, with the participants focused on improving their skills in communication, public speaking and time management.
