OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe holds roundtable discussion on women, peace and security
A one-day roundtable discussion on women, peace and security took place in Dushanbe on 30 October 2017. The discussion was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe with the participation of 30 representatives from Tajikistan’s civil society, political parties, national gender experts and youth.
The discussion focused on how communities and societies can support the further advancement of women in traditionally male-dominated areas and professions, such as police and military services.
“With this roundtable discussion we mark the 17th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, raising the visibility of the role of women in peace processes, from conflict prevention to building and maintaining peace,” said Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede, Gender and Anti-Trafficking Officer at the OSCE Programme Office. “Promoting leadership for women in governance processes, empowering women economically, and giving them their rightful place in the decision-making process is a formula for development and sustainable peace.”
This event is one in a series organized by the OSCE Office in Dushanbe, aimed at building capacity and raising awareness with respect to the role of women in enhancing safety and security. The participants of the roundtable discussion and the Office plan to continue working together to support the implementation of UNSCR 1325 National Action Plan.
