Training series on risk profiling at border checkpoints co-organized by OSCE concludes in Kazakhstan
An OSCE-supported five-day training course on risk profiling at border checkpoints to assist authorities in countering transnational threats concluded in Astana on 28 April 2017.
Twenty-four instructing officers of the Border Service of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee took part in the training seminar on “Best Global Practices in Profiling”. It is the third and final stage of a larger project co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana with the United States Embassy in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian Regional Information Co-ordination Centre for Combating the Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors (CARICC) since 2016.
Experts from Israel, the Russian Federation and the United States provided border guards with an overview of the risk profiling systems in their countries. Experts from the Global Training Team of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s Office of Training shared effective interviewing techniques and best practices for large and small airport interdiction.
Graduates of the course received diplomas certifying them as specialized instructors. They will start teaching this course or parts of it to their colleagues across Kazakhstan upon return to their duty stations.
The series is a continuation of last year’s training series on risk profiling organized in six different locations around Kazakhstan for 128 Border Service officers.
The event is part of the Office’s activities aimed at enhancing the host country’s border security and promoting integrated border security management while countering transnational threats. Follow-up events are scheduled to take place this year in Aktobe and Kostanai.
