British MP Bruce George to lead OSCE observation of Albanian elections

COPENHAGEN, 13 June 2001 (OSCE) - OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Vice-President Bruce George, MP (United Kingdom) will lead the OSCE Observers for the Parliamentary Elections in Albania on Sunday 24 June 2001. Mr. George will act as Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Romanian Foreign Minister, Mircea Geoana, leading the Mission and delivering the preliminary post election statement on Monday, 25 June.
The OSCE observer team so far includes 40 representatives of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The OSCE Election Observation Mission is a joint effort between the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE. The OSCE Observation Mission will assess the conduct of the elections, the political campaign and the role of the media. Long-term observers have already been deployed for several weeks across the country. This week the short-term observers will be deployed in Albania by the OSCE Election Observation Mission.
