Estonian MP to lead OSCE observation of Parliamentary Elections in Montenegro

COPENHAGEN, 17 April 2001 - The Vice-president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Mr. Tiit Käbin MP (Estonia), will lead the OSCE observers for the Parliamentary Elections being held in Montenegro on Sunday 22 April 2001.
Mr. Käbin will act as Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Romanian Foreign Minister Mr. Mircea Dan Geoana, leading the Mission and delivering the preliminary post-election statement on Monday 23 April.
The OSCE PA observer team includes 41 representatives of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from OSCE countries including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Norway, Poland, Romania, the Russian Federation, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
The OSCE Election Observation Mission to Montenegro is a joint effort between the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The observation mission will assess the conduct of the elections, the political campaign and the role of the media. Long-term observers have already been deployed for several weeks across the country. This week the short-term observers will be deployed in Montenegro by the OSCE Election Observation Mission.
