OSCE Parliamentry Assembly President to address Romanian Parliament

COPENHAGEN, 15 February 2000 - On Tuesday 22 February 2000 Mrs. Helle Degn, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, will address a Joint Session of the Romanian House of Deputies and the Senate, as part of her three day official visit to Romania from 21-23 February.
President Degn, who represents more than 300 parliamentarians from 54 OSCE participating States will meet with the President of Romania, Mr. Emil Constantinescu and with Prime Minister Mr. Mugur Isarescu on Wednesday 23 February. Mrs. Degn will also have talks with the Romanian Foreign Minister Mr. Petre Roman as well as with the Speaker of the House of Deputies, Mr. Ion Diaconescu and the President of the Senate, Mr. Mircea Ionescu Quintus.
Mrs. Degn's visit to Romania is part of an extensive series of visits by the President to governments and parliaments of OSCE participating States, as well as to Institutions and Field Missions of the OSCE. The main purpose of these visits is to discuss recent OSCE developments, intensify inter-parliamentary dialogue and to draw attention to and support the work of the OSCE. Since her election in July 1998, President Degn has visited 17 OSCE participating States.
