OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will not observe Russian election

COPENHAGEN, 7 February, 2008 - The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Goran Lennmarker has notified the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Boris Gryzlov, that the Parliamentary Assembly is unable to accept the invitation to monitor the Russian Presidential election on 2 March 2008, the Assembly's Secretary General R. Spencer Oliver said today.
"We regret that circumstances prevent us from observing this election," Oliver said.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly did not monitor the previous Russian Presidential election in 2004. However, it did observe the Russian Parliamentary elections in December 2007.
