Preliminary conclusions of Election Observation Mission in Macedonia to be released

SKOPJE, 28 October 1999 - The preliminary conclusions of OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, covering the observation of the campaign, media monitoring as well as the conclusions of the 155 observers from election day, will be presented in a press conference at 11: 30 a.m., Monday, 1 November 1999, at the Hotel Continental, Skopje. The press conference is being held in co-operation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission has now finalized plans for the observation of the 31 October elections. A total of 155 international observers will be deployed for the election, and will cover most of the country. International observers will work mostly in two-person teams. Each team will have an interpreter and a driver, and will work in a designated part of the country, visiting polling stations around their area throughout election day.
In each polling station, observers will fill out an observation report form on the process of voting. Observers will also fill out a report form when they observe the count of votes in a polling station.
All international observers will return to Skopje on the morning of Monday, 1 November, to attend a de-briefing.
The OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission has been present in the country since 21 September, and has 13 international experts based in eight locations around the country.
The OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission has also been monitoring the media during the campaign, using six monitors to assess the TV and newspaper coverage.
