Copenhagen to host workshop on protecting human rights in the fight against terrorism

WARSAW, 10 March 2004 - The need to respect and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism will be the subject of a workshop in Copenhagen on 15-16 March.
The event will bring together parliamentary officials, human rights experts, and counter-terrorism and law-enforcement personnel. It is organized by the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the International Human Rights Law Institute of DePaul University, and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade is funding the event.
Media representatives are invited to attend the workshop.
The Danish Minster of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Per Stig Moeller, will give the opening speech on Monday, 15 March, at 9:30.
Ambassador Christian Strohal, Director of OSCE/ODIHR, will close the workshop on Tuesday, 16 March, at 16.00.
A press conference will be held on Tuesday, 16 March, at 13:30 at the Danish Ministry of Foreign affairs, Eigtveds Pakhus, Room A, Asiatisk Plads 2G, Copenhagen.
