OSCE delegation leaves today for Moscow and Chechnya

VIENNA, 20 March 1995 - The Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Ambassador Istvan Gyarmati is leaving today for Moscow and later to Chechnya to finalize details for the early establishment of an OSCE presence in the Chechnya region. Amb. Gyarmati is accompanied by an OSCE delegation which includes: American diplomat Richard Norland, French diplomat Pierre Filatoff, Danish Diplomat Lars Paulsen Hansen, the Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre Ambassador Jan Kubis and Hungarian diplomat Zoltan Nagy.
This is the third OSCE trip to the region of the Chechnya crisis. The Government of the Russian Federation agreed to a permanent OSCE presence in Chechnya as well as OSCE involvement in the short-term and long-term political negotiating process during recent talks in Moscow with Hungarian Prime Minister Horn and OSCE Chaiman-in-Office, Hungarian Foreign Minister Laszlo Kovacs.
The group, which will spend three days in Chechnya and the region, expects to work out the modalities of the OSCE involvement and report to a 29. 03 meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna.
