Head of OSCE Mission to Montenegro supports parliament’s initiative to engage pupils on democracy and human rights

Human rights, non-discrimination and the role of the OSCE in promoting these values were among the topics discussed at a Democracy Workshop on 5 December 2014, attended by the students of the Radoje Cizmovic elementary school from Niksic and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Ambassador Janina Hrebickova. The workshop was organized in Podgorica by the parliament of Montenegro.
As part of the workshop, students conducted an interview with the Ambassador. The interview will be later published on the official webpage of the Democracy Workshops project.
The Democracy Workshops project, an initiative of Montenegro’s parliament, is an interactive programme of civic education for elementary school students. The programme currently has three modules: Parliament and democracy, the European Union, and Human rights. The latter is a recent addition and was supported by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro.
In addition to learning, the programme aims to raise awareness among students of the other two conditions for political participation: media competence and the willingness to express an opinion. To this end, students write about what they learned in a journalistic assignment or present it in the form of a radio or TV broadcast.
