OSCE-supported Monitoring report on good governance in local self-government presented in Podgorica
The OSCE Mission supported the NGO centre for development of non–governmental organisations (CRNVO) in the development of 2013 monitoring report on good governance in local self-government, involving 21 municipalities in Montenegro, which was presented on 27 November 2014 in Podgorica.
Executive director of CRNVO Ana Novakovic noted that the progress showed in 2013 report is minimal, and the fact that only ten civic initiatives were launched across 21 municipalities during 2013 is discouraging.
The main recommendations presented to the representatives of municipal authorities and civil society prescribe, among other issues, the need to improve mechanisms of civic participation in decision-making processes, the importance of training courses for citizens, better information sharing with NGOs and citizens, improving the process of consultation with non-governmental organizations on local self-government programmes. The document also provides information regarding the NGO’s project financing on local level.
“The only way for citizens to satisfy their needs and truly improve local communities and help local governments to achieve their purpose are to participate in decision-making processes together”, said Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission Waldemar Figaj.
