OSCE and Montenegrin Ministry of Human and Minority Rights promote fight against discrimination through training
Strengthening the mechanisms of promoting human and minority rights was the topic of a workshop organized by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro and the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights on 18 April 2013 in Przno, Becici.
The workshop covering anti-discrimination legal framework and protection mechanisms marked the beginning of a series of education events focusing on discrimination.
The Head of the OSCE Mission, Ambassador Lubomir Kopaj said at the opening of the event that although antidiscrimination legislation already adopted is rather comprehensive, “significant efforts are still being made to develop it further and facilitate its effective implementation which remains a challenge primarily due to insufficient capacities.”
Kopaj said that the training sessions are part of continued practical support the OSCE provides to Montenegro’s anti-discrimination efforts. At the event, the OSCE Mission and the Ministry signed the Memorandum of Understanding on further activities.
Minister for Human and Minority Rights Suad Numanović said that the adoption of the legal framework was a major step in the fight against discrimination, and now the key task is to ensure its full implementation.
Director of the Inspection Administration, Božidar Vuksanović reiterated the importance of the inspection mechanisms in the implementation of the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination.
