OSCE Mission to Moldova promotes discussions on the application of the State Innovative Policy in the regions
On 4 October 2016, the OSCE Mission to Moldova hosted a roundtable discussion on the use of the State Innovative Policy as an instrument of development in the regions, with particular focus on the experience of Moldova’s autonomous region of Gagauzia. The event brought together 21 participants representing the Moldovan Parliament, the Gagauz Executive Committee, Moldova’s Regional Development Agencies, the international community and civil society, as well a representative of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.
During the event, Ala Levitcaia, independent expert from Comrat State University, presented a report, using Gagauzia as a case study, that analyzed the effectiveness of the state’s policy on innovation as a tool of development. The report highlighted the critical importance of institutional and financial investments as a catalyst for innovation if development goals outside the capital are to be met.
“Today’s event provided a unique opportunity to learn from and exchange information with a wide range of stakeholders,” said Oksana Kirichenko, a practicing lawyer and participant in the discussions. “I was particularly interested in learning about the impact of this process in Gagauzia on the development of local entrepreneurs.”
The roundtable event was held as part of the Mission’s project to support the engagement of national minority youth and civil society in public discussions and public service in Moldova. Two more roundtable discussions will be held before the end of 2016.
