At OSCE event, lawyers from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River discuss how to better serve clients’ needs after litigation
On 16 September 2016, the OSCE Mission to Moldova organized the second in a year-long series of meetings of the Human Rights Club for lawyers from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River. The event, held in Chisinau, brought together 35 lawyers and NGO representatives to discuss the execution of court decisions and the details needed to keep their clients informed.
During the event, legal practitioners discussed the details of court decisions and what their clients can expect after such decisions become final, including projected timeframes and the potential outcomes and impact of the legal process. Of particular interest to participants was the issue of what individuals are entitled to when civil cases come to an end – information that can help enable lawyers to better prepare their clients.
“Too often, those seeking legal redress are not adequately prepared for the outcome of a court decision, especially where those decisions are not properly executed,” said Lela Metreveli, a lawyer and the Director of the Chisinau-based Human Rights Embassy. “Today’s lively discussions gave practicing lawyers from both banks the opportunity to share their experiences and describe the problems they face in this field while establishing potential areas for future co-operation.”
This event is part of a year-long project that facilitates the exchange of experiences between lawyers from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River and supports their professional development. In 2016, the Mission will organize two more meetings of the Human Rights Club in Chisinau and Tiraspol.
