OSCE Mission to Moldova brings together lawyers from both banks for summer training course on accessing information
The OSCE Mission to Moldova organized a three-day summer training course for lawyers from 23 to 25 June 2017 aimed at enhancing their ability to access information and to collect and protect personal data in accordance with Moldovan law and international standards. The event, held at Vadul-lui-Vodă, brought together 30 lawyers and representatives of NGOs and legal aid clinics for lively discussions on this complex subject.
Participants in the summer school studied various types of human rights violations that can arise when attempting to access information, including personal data. Of particular interest were the latest trends in international case law addressing personal data protection. At the end of the training, participants also had the opportunity to test their knowledge through case studies and group work.
“It is essential that practicing lawyers are able to access the information they need to represent their clients’ interests in court and to maintain confidentiality while exchanging personal data,” said Alexei Croitor, a lawyer from Chisinau. “By bringing together lawyers from both banks, this training course has allowed them to learn from one another, which also further develops their analytical and representational skills.”
This event is part of the Mission’s year-long project that seeks to build the capacity of lawyers from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River to better represent the needs of their communities.
