Series of OSCE-supported training courses on Model for Professional Development of School Management concludes in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The second and final round of training courses on the Model for Professional Development of School Management, which was organized by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina in co-operation with the Ministry for Education, Science, Sports and Culture of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, attended by some 80 school directors, was held during 20 to 24 November 2017 in Mostar.
“The purpose of the Model for Professional Development of School Management is to increase the quality of education and assist schools in promoting tolerance and mutual understanding,” said Sladjana Curak, National Programme Officer at the OSCE Mission to BiH.
Seada Kustric, Director of IV Primary School in Mostar, said the training raised some important questions about whether the schools are going in the right direction. “We are well aware that there are important international assessments ahead of us for which we need to prepare.”
According to Lidija Jerkovic, Adviser at the Institute for Education in Mostar, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton took a significant step forward by introducing school development planning in 2014 as an integral part of schools’ annual plan. “We are in the process of introducing the same in the Law on Primary and Secondary School Education.”
The Model represents a step further in the systematic improvement of school director competencies such as knowledge, skills, and a proper attitude. The Model was adopted in December in 2016 and presented to all education ministers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
