OSCE holds seminar in Minsk on State support for small and medium business

MINSK, 18 November 2004 - A seminar designed to help develop the draft law on State support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) opened today in the International Business Centre (IBB) in Minsk.
The two-day event, organized by the OSCE Office in Minsk together with the Ministry of Economy and the National Law Drafting Centre will focus on topics such as micro-lending opportunities and minimizing of administrative restrictions on SMEs.
"State support for SMEs in helping lower administrative and financial barriers is very important for countries with transition economies," said Marcin Swiecicki, the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, who is taking part in the seminar.
He expressed hope that the event would result in a number of recommendations for the draft law on State support for SMEs.
During his visit, Dr. Swiecicki will also meet senior government officials and discuss further co-operation between Belarus and the OSCE. He will give a lecture for students of Belarus State University on economic co-operation in the OSCE region after the EU enlargement.
