VIENNA 27 November 2000
VIENNA, 27 November 2000 - Two reports describing OSCE activities during the past year were released by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Vienna today.
The first report describes the Interaction Between Organizations and Institutions in the OSCE Area. It explains how the OSCE and its Institutions (Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Representative on Freedom of the Media, High Commissioner on National Minorities and Parliamentary Assembly) work in co-operation with other international organizations and institutions.
A large section of the report is devoted to the 20 OSCE field activities and how each works with a number of other organizations. This report is a follow-up to the Charter for European Security, including the Platform on Co-operative Security, which was adopted at the 1999 OSCE Istanbul Summit to strengthen and develop co-operation on the basis of equality, competitive advantages, and spirit of partnership.
The Annual Report on OSCE Activities 2000 provides an overview of the activities of all OSCE Institutions and Field Activities during the year. Included are activity highlights, descriptions of the mandates, financial overview and operational and support information.
The OSCE is a regional security organization whose 55 participating States are from Europe, Central Asia and North America. The OSCE has been established as a primary instrument for early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation . It addresses a wide range of security-related issues including arms control, preventive diplomacy, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, election monitoring and economic and environmental security.
