OSCE Mission in Kosovo donates books to Prishtinë/Priština University law faculty
PRISHTINË/PRISTINA, 23 March 2011 – The OSCE Mission in Kosovo today donated 300 newly published volumes of the OSCE’s legal reports to the Law Faculty at Prishtinë/Priština University.
The books comprise all 116 public monitoring reports published by the OSCE since 1999 for both civil and criminal cases, and cover a range of topics, including compliance with human rights and international treaties. Available in the Albanian, Serbian and English languages, they record developments and trends in the justice system over the past decade and can serve as a resource and reference tool for law students.
"We all know that the rule of law is the foundation of a just society," said OSCE Deputy Head of Mission Edward Joseph, presenting the donation to Law Faculty Dean Bajram Uka. "The Law Faculty students who will be studying these compilations of over 100 OSCE reports are the future judges, prosecutors, and lawyers who will help to strengthen the rule of law and the justice system in Kosovo."
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with monitoring the justice system for compliance with international human rights standards, and to recommend solutions to ensure that these standards are met.
As part of these activities, the Mission has supported the legal community in Kosovo by establishing the Kosovo Judicial Institute, which provides initial training and continuing legal education for judges, prosecutors and other legal professionals in Kosovo.
