OSCE-run Kosovo police school to host youth camp
PRISTINA 17 November 2004
PRISTINA, 17 November 2004 - A youth camp called "Future Leaders," which aims to strengthen ties with between students and the police, will be hosted by the Kosovo Police Service School from 19 to 21 November in Vushtrri/Vucitrn.
A multi-ethnic group of about 200 secondary school students from across Kosovo will focus on civic responsibilities and increasing community safety.
Participants will learn about community policing, non-violent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. This is especially important as a large number of young people were involved in the outbreak of violence in March 2004.
Over the last five years, the OSCE Mission in Kosovo's Department of Police Education and Development has organized such camps on an annual basis. This is a joint initiative with the UNMIK Community-Orientated Policing and Problem-Solving unit.
President Ibrahim Rugova, Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi and Deputy UN Special Representative Larry Rossin are expected to attend the event.
