New Director named for Kosovo Law Centre
PRISTINA 22 May 2003
PRISTINA, 22 May 2003 - With the appointment of Dr. Haki Demolli as Director of the OSCE-established Kosovo Law Centre (KLC), the team which will work to transform it into a fully independent body is now in place.
"The KLC is now ready to face the challenge in becoming an independent body supporting the students and teachers in the Law Faculty," said Carsten Weber, the Director of Human Rights and Rule of Law Department in the OSCE's Mission in Kosovo.
"For a long time the KLC has been an institution linked to the OSCE, but handing over is a necessity. That is why we are happy to have the right team in place after the Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Haki Demolli the new Director."
Dr. Demolli completed his masters degree in Legal Sciences in February 1995 and gained his Ph.D in September 2001 at the University of Prishtine/Pristina.
He is familiar with the institutions established by the OSCE, having worked as legal instructor for the Kosovo Police Service School. At the Law Faculty in Prishtinë/Pristina, he was appointed as Assistant Professor of criminology.
The KLC, which recently appointed a new Programme Co-ordinator, is now prepared to carry out its tasks at full strength. The most important of these is to provide support to the Law Faculty. New programmes have recently started to be implemented.
The new management team will prepare the transition of the KLC from an institution linked to the OSCE to a fully independent body.
The position of Director of KLC was opened after the unfortunate death of its former Director, Professor Gani Oruci, last December.
