Fostering regional dialogue through media
PRISTINA 29 November 2002
PRISTINA, 29 November 2002 - Journalists from Kosovo, Serbia proper and Montenegro will gather this weekend in Brezovica / Brezovicë to discuss the role of the media in building inter-community dialogue. The meeting is being held at the invitation of the OSCE, the Mother Theresa Society and the Novi Sad Centre for Regionalism.
During a two-day conference, participants will work to identify issues of common concern and discuss ideas for future dialogue and joint initiatives by which they - as representatives of the media - could reinforce next year's action progamme of the OSCE Civic Dialogue Alternative (CAD) project.
The CAD project, co-financed by the OSCE, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Freedom House Foundation, is aimed at facilitating dialogue between Kosovo, Montenegrin and Serbian non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It is based on the experience of the Igman Initiative, one of the successful regional peace-building forums, which was initially created in 1995 by 38 intellectuals from Yugoslavia who reached the besieged Sarajevo as a sign of solidarity with its citizens.
This will be the fifth time this year that the CAD has made direct contact possible between NGOs and youth civil groups throughout the region. It follows a series of conferences and meetings organised in Pristina, Novi Becej and Palic (both in Vojvodina), as well as in the capital of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Belgrade.
Representatives of the media are invited to a press conference tomorrow in Brezovica. They will have the opportunity to meet the main panellist, Dr. Don Lush Gjergji, President of Mother Teresa Society and Prof. Aleksandar Popov, Director of the Centre for Regionalism. Other journalists from Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro are participating in the conference.
Location: Conference Hall, Narcis Hotel, Brezovica
Date: 30 November 2002
Time: 12:45 p.m.
