First regional conference in Kosovo of public administration institutes
PRISTINA 20 November 2002
PRISTINA, 20 November 2002 - The OSCE Mission in Kosovo has invited the Institutes of Public Administration of the southeastern European countries for a first regional conference. The two-day event, organised by the Public Administration Support Team, will bring together representatives of the institutes of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Slovenia.
The participants will discuss the work of their respective institutions, and how they can harmonise and co-ordinate their efforts. Discussions may lead to the formulation of a future common strategy.
Since early 2000, the OSCE, through its Institute of Civil Administration (ICA), has delivered training to more than 5,000 staff members of municipal and central structures of government.
In line with the overall kosovarization process and in order to prepare the ground for professional public administration training, the ICA has been restructured recently to form the Public Administration Support Team.
The organisation of this present conference presents an opportunity to bring together the knowledge and expertise from other neighbouring areas and institutions who have faced similar situations and understand the conditions that a future Kosovo Institute of Public Administration will need to address.
As part of its institution building mandate the OSCE has taken an important role in setting up and strengthening the local Kosovo administration.
The conference is due to be opened by the Head of OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Pascal Fieschi.
