Two LKCK candidates removed from electoral lists in Kosovo
PRISTINA 11 October 2002
PRISTINA, 11 October 2002 - A breach of the electoral Code of Conduct has been committed by the National Movement for the Liberation of Kosovo (LKCK). For this reason, the Election Complaints and Appeals sub-Commission (ECAC) has removed the candidates from the LKCK lists, one each in Malisheve/Malisevo and Kamenice/Kamenica municipalities.
The LKCK had first failed to pay a fine imposed by the ECAC for submitting invalid signatures of support in its application to run in the Kacanik/Kacanik Assembly election. The ECAC then levied an additional fine and notified the party that if this was not paid additional action could be taken, including the removal of candidates.
Through a random selection process, the ECAC decided to remove candidate number 1 for Malisheve/Malisevo municipality and candidate number 3 for Kamenice/Kamenica municipality.
Based on this decision, these individuals will not be allowed to sit in the assembly if the LKCK wins mandates in either of these two municipalities in the 26 October elections.
Political entities are reminded that if they break the rules governing the 2002 electoral process, including the failure to pay fines, the ECAC will impose penalties ranging from additional fines to a candidate or party being barred from contesting the October municipal elections.
