Registration of new Gorani party in Kosovo open for review
PRISTINA 23 July 2002
PRISTINA, 23 July 2002 - The Gorani Citizens' Initiative (GIG), recently established as a political party by Ibisi Rustem in Kosovo, has completed its registration requirements with the OSCE Mission in Kosovo's Political Party Registration Office. A final decision on registration will be given following a 14-day period, during which the public is invited to review the registration documents.
The OSCE Mission's Party Registration Office has been given the responsibility of registering political parties under the United Nations Mission in Kosovo's Regulation 2002/8. Once all registration materials have been submitted, including the party's programme, statute, and logo, they are made available to the public for review and comments.
According to the regulation, "anyone who wishes to object to an application for registration of a political party on the basis of any of the provisions of the [] Regulation may submit such objections, in writing (together with any information or material substantiating the objection), to the Office within 14 days of the application".
The GIG, which was originally founded in 2001 as a citizens' initiative and participated in last year's province-wide Assembly election as one the components of the coalition Vatan, was established last June as a political party. It aims to represent the Gorani community in Dragash/Dragas, and has applied for certification to participate in the forthcoming elections in this municipality.
Promoting transparency in the political party registration process is part of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo's continuing commitment in supporting the development of democratic institutions in the province. Anyone wishing to view the registration documents can come between 10:00 and 12:00 any weekday from 24 July to 6 August to the Registration Office located in the OSCE Department of Election Operations building in Pristina.
