Political Entity Certification in Kosovo comes to a close
PRISTINA 2 July 2002
PRISTINA, 2 July 2002 - Yesterday was the deadline for the Political Entity Certification process for the forthcoming Kosovo Municipal Elections. Early in the afternoon, representatives of political entities stood in line outside the OSCE Election Building in Prishtinë/Pristina to submit their applications. Applications were also submitted to OSCE Offices in and out of Kosovo. At 19:00, 50 had already been submitted and more were coming.
The OSCE Department of Election Operations will now examine each application for compliance with the electoral rules. This will include a thorough examination of the signatures collected. The Central Election Commission (CEC) will then take a decision whether or not to certify the entities. Those who failed to meet today's deadline will have their late applications forwarded to the Election Complaints and Appeals Sub-Commission (ECAC), which has the authority to take appropriate sanctions.
