OSCE to brief press on Kosovo election challenge and confirmation period
PRISTINA 8 October 2001
PRISTINA, 8 October 2001 (OSCE) - The next step in the OSCE Mission to Kosovo's programme to update the voters' list for the forthcoming elections on 17 November gets underway today and will run through 17 October.
During the so-called challenge Period, registered voters, political entities and organizations will be able to inspect the voters' list, challenge possible non-eligible names on the list and request their removal. A challenge can be made if, for example, someone whose name is on the list will not be at least 18 years old on election day.
All challenges will be submitted to the province's Election Complaints and Appeals sub-Commission for review. Those who have registered for the elections outside of Kosovo, can confirm that their information on the voters' list is correct.
Jarrett Blanc, Senior Advisor to the Director of Election Operations of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, will explain on 9 October at 12:00 hours at the regular OSCE election briefing how this process will provide for a better election. The briefing will take place in the 6th floor conference room at the OSCE Headquarters in Pristina, Kosovo.
