"With Us, For Us": OSCE weekly radio show in Kosovo
PRISTINA 12 April 2001
PRISTINA, 12 April 2001 - The OSCE Mission in Kosovo's new weekly radio programme goes on-air this Sunday, 15 April 2001. The fifteen minute show - "Me ne, për ne" (With us, for us) - will feature stories about the Organization's work in Kosovo.
The radio programme, which is being co-produced by the OSCE and the Swiss-based NGO Media Action International (MAI), will be broadcast every Sunday on more than twenty radio stations in Kosovo.
The radio programmes will look at the diversity of work being done by the OSCE and its relevance to the people of Kosovo.
They will focus on the OSCE's core themes and priorities for the year. In particular, they will examine the Organization's efforts to promote democracy, respect for human rights and support for the rule of law from a grassroots perspective.
The topics will include OSCE's role in police and prison officer training, the judicial system, trafficking and property rights. The programme will also look at issues such as women in politics, civil service training, the rights and responsibilities of parties and politicians, working with NGOs, media training and elections.
A democratic society depends very much on respect for the rule of law and the fundamental human and civil rights of all its people. In the same way, a well functioning judicial system is vital to the development of democracy. The OSCE is making an important contribution to the development of civil and democratic society in Kosovo. Every member of a democracy has a role to play to make it a success.
The first programme, which will be broadcast this Sunday, will focus on the role of the Ombudsperson Institution and the training currently being run for the municipal assembly members elected last October.
