OSCE outraged by attack on staff in Kosovo

PRISTINA, 30 March 2001 - The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is appalled that one of its staff members was attacked while driving through Pristina Thursday evening.
The driver was slightly injured when a group of people threw stones at the car. Some of the stones smashed through the windows and hit him.The incident was reported to UNMiK police who are now investigating."It is outrageous that our staff members and property are attacked," said Ambassador Daan Everts, head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. "People have a right to go about their work, whether it is for OSCE or any other organization, without such harassment."There have been a number of attacks on both local and international OSCE staff members over the last few months.The OSCE Mission in Kosovo has been working with all communities in Kosovo over the last 20 months to build up indigenous institutions, based on an understanding of democracy and of human rights.
