Training the trainers in Kosovo: a project for NGO development
PRISTINA 5 May 2000
PRISTINA, 5 May 2000 - The OSCE Mission is providing assistance to NGOs in Kosovo with a comprehensive training programme aimed at 'training the trainers'.
The project is part of an overall attempt to increase the skills and build a strong base for NGOs in Kosovo. It will begin with a core group, primarily the staff of the OSCE NGO Resource Centres. These 30 trainers will then train local NGO workers across Kosovo. This will help to increase the number of locally delivered training programmes and also allow for training materials to be distributed in local languages.
The training institute Partners for Democratic Change, which has extensive experience in South-Eastern Europe is conducting the training. Topics will include: management, organization, public and media relations, lobbying and advocacy, fundraising and proposal writing. Since some of the NGO Resource Centres have a multi-ethnic staff, special attention is also given to team-building.
The training sessions are being conducted in the Pristina NGO Resource Centre from early May through early July.
The OSCE is committed to assisting Kosovo NGOs in developing as part of the foundation for a civil society. Three NGO Resource Centres are already open - in Pristina, Pec/Peja and Prizren and a further six are due to open shortly.
