Kosovo Law Centre sponsors seminar on alternative resolution of family disputes
PRISTINA 8 February 2001
PRISTINA, 8 February 2001 - The Kosovo Law Centre (KLC), in co-operation with the Finnish Human Rights Project and UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women), is holding a seminar on Alternative Dispute Resolution on Family Issues on 9 February.
Family disputes, in many countries, are often considered private issues, but it has been seen that such situations can lead to abuse, physical harassment, or worse. As there is a lack of awareness of alternative ways to settle family disputes within Kosovo, the KLC is addressing this issue.
Local and international experts will be giving presentations on various inter-related subjects such as cross-cultural and traditional aspects of dispute resolution, and resolving conflict between spouses using both practical psychology as well as the legal system. Each presentation will be followed by discussion.
The seminar will take place in Pristina on Friday, 9 February, 10:00 17:00 hrs, at Hotel Iliria. Media are welcome to observe the proceedings.
The Kosovo Law Centre was established in June 2000 by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo as part of its institution-building mandate. The Centre serves as a legal think-tank devoted to the cultivation of professional legal skills by providing technical and material assistance to the legal community. It has previously held three law-related seminars focusing on property, privatization issues and trafficking of women.
