PRISTINA 14 December 2000
PRISTINA, 14 December 2000 - The Office of the Temporary Media Commissioner announced today that the Special Broadcast Authorizations (Elections Coverage) issued to Kosovo radio and television stations will remain in effect until the stations receive either regular or conditional licences.
The Office of the Temporary Media Commissioner also reminds the stations that all terms and conditions of these authorizations remain in effect, including the Broadcast Code of Conduct, Election Code of Conduct, and Regulation 2000/36 on licensing and regulation of broadcast media in Kosovo.
Regular and conditional licences are expected to be issued during December 2000. Individual broadcasters will be contacted directly by the Office of the Temporary Media Commissioner as to when they should go to the Temporary Media Commission offices to sign for their new licences.
Special Broadcast Authorizations will remain valid until broadcasters are in possession of their regular or conditional licenses.
The Office of the Temporary Media Commissioner also announced that competitive hearings will begin in mid-January for the second round of one-year licences for local radio and television stations. It is anticipated that final awarding of these licenses, subject to the appeals process, should be completed by the end of January.
