Kosovo Law Centre opens in Pristina, 15 June
PRISTINA 13 June 2000
PRISTINA, 13 June 2000 - A neutral and non-political forum for Kosovo lawyers opens its doors in Pristina this week. The Kosovo Law Centre, developed by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, will provide a focus for legal research in the region as well as being the publisher for laws, regulations and decrees. The Kosovo Law Centre has already published a compilation of applicable criminal laws.
The centre will also provide a library of legal and human rights documents and provide assistance to the Kosovo legal community. The centre is planning its first legal conference.
"This Law Centre is important as we are creating a think tank which, when we leave, we will give to the people of Kosovo," said Sebastian von Muenchow, acting Director of the Centre.
As part of its capacity-building mandate, the OSCE hopes that the creation of the Kosovo Law Centre will cultivate the professional skills of the region's legal community. The centre is a registered non-governmental organization and as such aims to promote democratic principles, multiculturalism and a respect for human rights.
Kosovo Law Centre will be opened by OSCE Head of Mission, Ambassador Daan Everts. Allmedia are welcome to attend.
