OSCE Kosovo Mission promotes journalism ethics and reporting standards
The last in a series of three workshops organized by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo on professional reporting standards, ethics, and media accountability for young journalists concluded in Prizren on 14 August 2014.
The workshops held in Mitrovicë/Mitrovica, Gjilan/Gnjilane, and Prizren between May and August 2014 gathered more than 80 journalists to help them develop understanding of the relevant media legislation in Kosovo, journalists’ codes of ethics, and their application in both traditional and new media.
Panelists at the workshops included senior journalists and representatives of the media regulatory bodies, the Independent Media Commission and Press Council of Kosovo as well as journalists’ associations.
Most of their discussions focused on a recent OSCE Mission report on freedom of media and safety of journalists in Kosovo which noted that civil society and media should “strive to raise the credibility of the media sector by increasing scrutiny over journalistic work and by pushing forward projects that increase the level of professionalism.”
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with human and community rights protection and promotion, democratization, and public safety sector development. It supports the development of independent and professional media in Kosovo.
