OSCE trains Kosovo Police on fighting Internet-based crimes
The OSCE supported a course for 15 Kosovo Police investigators on how to better investigate crimes on Internet is concluding on 26 April 2013 in Prishtinë/Priština.
The two-week course gathers representatives of units dealing with organized crime, counter-terrorism, intelligence analysis, economic crime, cybercrime, and information technologies in the Kosovo Police. The discussions focus on ways to use technology in the fight against organized crime, drug traffickers, terrorist groups, and high-tech crimes.
“With the rise of the Internet and mobile communications, organised crime groups are becoming increasingly networked in their structure and international in nature,” said Ibrahim Gultekin, Chief of the OSCE Mission’s Organized Crime Section.
“With very few resources at hand, one individual in one place can inflict harm on companies and governments in distant places. This trend is likely to be increased, and this event aims to help Kosovo police counter online crime.”
The OSCE Mission has trained Kosovo Police on cybercrime since 2009. Following its recommendations, the Kosovo Police established its cybercrime unit in 2011.
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with the development of security and public safety. To help strengthen this sector, the Mission develops and delivers training for law enforcement agencies.
