OSCE Kosovo Mission acting Head condemns attack on human rights activist
PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 28 March 2013 – The acting Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Paivi Nikander, strongly condemned today the physical assault on prominent human rights activist Nazlie Bala, which took place last night.
Bala had taken part in a televised debate on the rights of women raped in conflict, which aired on the Radio Television of Kosovo on 18 March 2013 and was moderated by Edita Curri. On 20 March, Bala received a death threat, while the security of Curri’s family was threatened.
“I am appalled by the attack on Ms. Bala and I condemn this senseless act in the strongest terms,” said Nikander. “I urge law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and to provide adequate protection for persons facing threats.”
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with human rights protection and promotion, democratization and public safety sector development.
