OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities to organize Central Asia Student Olympiad on Multilingualism
THE HAGUE, 29 March 2017 – A student olympiad on multilingualism for pedagogy students at higher education institutions in Central Asia is being organized by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities under its Central Asia Education Programme together with the Karaganda State University in Kazakhstan from 4 to 6 May 2017.
The Central Asia Student Olympiad on Multilingualism aims to support the preservation and development of linguistic and cultural diversity through education, specifically by promoting multilingual and multicultural competencies among future teachers.
Each participating higher education institution will be represented by one team of four students, including no more than two students per team with the same mother tongue. Participants need to be fluent in at least three languages, which may include state, regional, national minority or foreign languages. They will compete based on their written and oral language skills and their multicultural competencies.
The lecturers accompanying the participants will have the opportunity to participate in a seminar on training multilingual educators as well as in master classes on teaching a second language and integrated subject and language training (CLIL), organized in co-operation with the Karaganda Region Institute for Advanced Training of Teachers of the National Centre for Professional Development ORLEU.
