OSCE Chairman-in-Office ready to assist Georgia in appointing Chairperson of Central Election Commission

TBILISI, 23 August 2003 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Netherlands Foreign Minister Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, on 22 August 2003, declared the Chair's readiness to submit candidates for the position of the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission to the President of Georgia.
In accordance with Article 128 (3) of the Unified Election Code of Georgia, the President will then appoint one of these candidates to the position of Chairperson.
In the course of next week, representatives of both the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe will arrive in Tbilisi to establish a shortlist for submission to the President.
The OSCE Mission to Georgia calls for public participation in identifying qualified candidates and expresses the hope that academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, civic associations and political parties will encourage qualified citizens of Georgia to put forward their names.
The OSCE Mission to Georgia invites individuals to submit their candidatures for consideration by these representatives to the Mission by Tuesday, 26 August 2003, 18.00 hours.
These candidatures should be supported by:

Documents should reach the OSCE Mission to Georgia either by E-mail ([email protected]), by Fax: 77 96 15 or in hard copy at the Mission Headquarters (address below). Only documents addressed by one of these means will be accepted.
