Drug specialists meet at conference in Tbilisi, Georgia
TBLISI 17 April 2001
TBLISI, 17 April 2001 - After many years of disrupted contacts, Abkhaz and Ossetian drug specialists for the first time participated in a regional conference in Tbilisi, Georgia. The conference involved four participants from each side.
The conference was organized by the OSCE Mission to Georgia and Georgian Research Institute on Addiction. Representatives from all parts of Georgia attended.
The physicians familiarised themselves with the work of narcology service in the regions, supplementary treatment methods of drug addicts, the current situation with drug expertise and ways to promote further co-operation.
It must be noted that in the frame of civic diplomacy projects, which aim to bring together various professions across the conflict lines, the OSCE Mission to Georgia has previously organized training programmes for journalists in the South Caucasus and a training seminar for Abkhaz, Georgian and Ossetian narcologists in Warsaw.
"A sustainable and dynamic process can only be ushered in if such initiatives become part of comprehensive and long-term projects," said Ambassador Jean-Michel Lacombe, Head of the OSCE Mission to Georgia.
