OSCE-chaired meeting sets goals for rehabilitation projects in the Zone of the Georgian-Ossetian Conflict
TBILISI, 15 September 2005 - Setting targets ahead of winter for several infrastructure projects, was the focus of an OSCE-chaired meeting today, on the EC-funded 2.5 million Euro rehabilitation programme for the Zone of Conflict.
The Steering Committee - comprising representatives of the Georgian and Ossetian sides, the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the OSCE Mission to Georgia - also discussed options for gas distribution routes outside Tskhinvali. It decided to continue dialogue on the subject at the next Joint Control Commission meeting scheduled for later this month in Vladikavkaz.
After briefings given by UNDP engineers, goals were set for the ongoing engineering work on water, gas and electricity supply as well as the rehabilitation of schools and safe waste disposal.
