Efficient responses to oil spills and remediation activities are vital to the protection of the environment.

Efficient responses to oil spills and remediation activities are vital to the protection of the environment. This workshop in Turkmenbashi focused on the status of regional co-operation in the Caspian Sea, the available technologies and the exchange of best practices from around the OSCE region.

It provided an overview of the actual situation at national and regional levels, through the presentation of different experiences from the Caspian Sea region and the whole OSCE area.

Also discussed were the role of international organizations in catalysing existing activities aimed at reducing oil spills and increasing response and remediation capacities of the Caspian Sea states, together with possible models for regional co-operation and public/private sector participation.
