OSCE Secretary General extends warmest congratulations to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan

VIENNA, 12 October 2001 (OSCE) - The OSCE Secretary General, Jan Kubis, warmly congratulates the United Nations and its Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, on his award of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize today by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

"This award underscores the exceptional work the United Nations are doing, and in particular the achievements under the tenure of Kofi Annan", said Mr. Kubis. "The OSCE, recognized as a regional arrangement under the UN Charter, has a longstanding and very special relationship with the United Nations, especially in the field where our staffs work closely together. We are confident that the Nobel Peace Prize will be a further inspiration and motivation for the UN to work on solving the problems the world is facing".
