Border security and management focus of OSCE Vienna meeting
VIENNA, 1 December 2006 - Ways to assist OSCE participating States in addressing the threats and challenges facing their borders were discussed at a meeting in Vienna on 29 and 30 November.
Hosted by the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre's Borders Team, it brought together personnel working in the Organizations' field operations. Participants underlined the need to facilitate legitimate movement and trade, and focus on detecting, disrupting and preventing any illegal activities.
"By promoting cross border co-operation between the 56 OSCE participating States, as well as better information exchange between international organizations we can contribute to economic development and ensure national security," said Henry Bolton, the OSCE Senior Border Issues Advisor.
