Fight against corruption, good governance focus of high-level OSCE meeting in Dublin on Monday

DUBLIN, 19 April 2012 – Good governance and fighting corruption is the theme of a two-day OSCE meeting that opens in Dublin on Monday 23 April 2012.

Participants from government, business, international organizations and civil society will discuss ways to prevent and counter corruption in the OSCE region. They will discuss best practices and national experiences, including Ireland’s Criminal Assets Bureau, and offer policy recommendations.

John Perry T.D., Minister of State, Department of Enterprise Jobs and Innovation, representing Ireland’s 2012 OSCE Chairmanship;Reinhard Priebe, the Director of Internal Security, DG Home, European Commission; Michael Camuñez, the US Assistant Secretary of Commerce; and Goran Svilanović, the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, will speak at the opening session.

Alan Shatter T.D., Ireland’s Minister of Justice, will address the closing session on Tuesday afternoon.

This is the second preparatory meeting for the 20th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum, the OSCE’s largest annual meeting on the economic and environmental dimension of security, which will be held in Prague in September on the theme of promoting security and stability through good governance. The first preparatory meeting, focusing on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, took place in Vienna on 6-7 February.
